9:1 Receive
Antenna Transformer

The AY Technologies TRX-9 Receive Antenna Transformer is
an optimized design for accurate impedance transformation, low loss and
rugged construction. The 9:1 impedance ratio is ideal for Beverages, K9AY
loops and other antennas with feedpoint impedances in the 300-1000 ohm
range (see specifications below). Separate primary and secondary windings
permit separate grounding of antenna and feedline, and make it easy to
obtain the necessary 180-degree phasing for "backfire" feeding
of inline or staggered phased arrays.
Specifications
Impedance transformation: 9:1 (output vs. input impedance)
50 ohm feedline 450 ohm optimum load impedance;
300-675 ohms with 1.5:1 VSWR
75 ohm feedline 675 ohm optimum load impedance;
450-1000 ohms with 1.5:1 VSWR
Bandwidth: Optimized for 1.8-7.3 MHz, usable from below 1 MHz to
above 30 MHz
Loss: 0.25 dB typical
Antenna connection: Red/Black color-coded binding posts
Coax connection: SO-239, with body connected to mounting flange
Surge protection: Gas tube spark gap, 75-volt breakover, 1 pF capacitance

Instructions
For a typical Beverage installation, connect the antenna to the Red binding
posts, and the ground connection to both the Black binding post and mounting
bracket. Connect either 50-ohm or 75-ohm coaxial feedline to the SO-239
connector. For phased arrays, 180-degree phasing can be accomplished by
reversing the Red and Black connections. If you want an isolated feedline,
do not ground the mounting bracket; just ground one of the binding post
connections. Always be sure that one of the binding post connections is
grounded the surge protector will not function without grounding!
